Moving Image Adds UK Regional Archive
UK footage house Moving Image has been appointed to manage and represent the Wessex Film & Sound Archive, a specialist British regional repository based at Hampshire Record Office in Winchester. The Wessex Archive includes footage of Boy Scouts founder Sir Robert Baden-Powell and his future wife, Olave Soames, as they inspect the Hampshire Boy Scouts at a Grand Rally in Southampton. Notable films include promos of the Queen Mary in 1960 on her way to New York, as well as the RMS Queen Elizabeth on 'Your Cunard Holiday to America,' in 1965. Other films in the collection include scenes as "homeless people" rehearse a mass evacuation, addressing the propaganda of the Cold War. In contrast there is also a visual account of the daily productivity at Huntley and Palmer's biscuit factory.
