British Empire Imagery Opens For Business On-line
A new web portal offering for licensing 6,000 still images and film clips depicting people, places and activities from colonial Britain's days of Empire has opened for business. Images of Empire provides online access for the first time to a unique archive of historical images held at the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum in Bristol, UK. The digitised material is part of the museum's holding of over one million still images and 400 hours of film footage, dating from circa 1860 to the present day. Key themes include colonial life, indigenous cultures, political and royal events, wars and conflicts, notable personalities, ceremonial and sporting occasions, industrial and commercial activities, and labour and leisure. Film clip licensing is offered at rates ranging from ᆪ5 ($9) a second for free to air regional tv to ᆪ43 ($80) a second for world ads and ᆪ50 ($94) for all media for ten years.
