Footage has emerged from China of a herd of elephants standing around, looking worried after three of them got stuck in a man-made pond.

The video, filmed in Yunnan Province last Sunday, shows three Asian elephants trapped in the water, awaiting rescue, while other members of the herd stand around, perhaps guarding them.

More than 60 armed police accompanied a helicopter and a JCB to rescue the elephants, because there was a fear the animals were agitated and could attack.

Fortunately, it all went well and they were eventually rescued successfully.

The video, filmed in Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province last Sunday, shows three Asia elephants getting stuck in the reservoir, while they are guarded by several companion around it.

More than 60 armed police and the helicopter were sent, while the excavator was also used to break a three-metre deep gap on the reservoir to rescue the trapped elephants.

Finally, three Asia elephants were rescued successfully and they were already back to the forest.
