Screenocean's Raiders of the Lost Archive – Battle of the Beanfield
Despite the dreary weather, today marks the summer solstice, signifying an important time of celebration and rituals for many cultures, including the legendary Stonehenge.
However, in June 1985, a group of New Age travellers attempting to get to Stonehenge was blocked by police, which quickly escalated into violence and possibly the largest mass arrest in English history, now known as the Battle of the Beanfield. Screenocean has this footage.
Operation Solstice from Channel 4
Channel 4’s 1991 show ’Operation Solstice’ delved into this historic and controversial event, taking a critical look at the military-style forces used by police, and featuring previously lost footage and first-hand testimonials.
